Ameriško podjetje Liberty Media, ki ima v lasti elitni dirkaški šport, je po koncu dirke za VN Abu Dabija predstavilo nov logo formule 1. Poslovni šef Sean Bratches je pojasnil, da je bila sprememba nujna zaradi potreb moderne tehnologije in bodočega trženja. Odzivi stroke in navijačev so deljeni.
Po mnenju enega najpomembnejših mož tekmovanja Rossa Brawna je bila sprememba nujna. "Veliko so nas spraševali, če je bila sprememba nujna. Odgovor je da. Novi logo je bolj prilagodljiv za trženje in lažje združljiv z digitalnim svetom. Stari logo ni bil ne ikoničen ne zapomnljiv. Navijačem smo morali sporočiti, da vstopamo v novo ero. Naš šport se spreminja in treba je gledati v prihodnost," je povedal nekdanji tehnični direktor Ferrarija ter šef Brawna oziroma Mercedesa.
Drugačnega mnenja je štirikratni svetovni prvak Lewis Hamilton. "Prejšnji je ikoničen, novi ni. Predstavljate si, da bi Ferrari spremenil svoj zaščitni znak," se je pritožil Britanec.
Šef Mercedesa Toto Wolff je nad spremembo navdušen, Red Bullov Christian Horner pa pravi, da mu ni mar za izgled, temveč ga zanima le, kakšen je potencial za trženje.
